Artistic experiences

Yesterday I went to ARKEN, a museum for modern art here in Copenhagen, with my parents and my semi-aunt & uncle. Right now they have 3 different exhibitions. The main reason for us going there was Olafur Eliasson, a danish-islantic artist known for The New York Waterfalls, The Weather Project (giant sun) at Tate Modern and the Danish Opera's chandeliers (at least that's something he's famous for here).

The must-see piece is the "Your Change Encounter", which is a looong tunnel made of wood etc. Prior to going in there, we knew nothing about the piece. Only that there was a warning-sign outside, stating that if you had some pretty common health problems you shouldn't go in there. One of them being having trouble breathing normally - and I have astma.

My first reaction upon going in there was actually fear. The tunnel is filled with a fog so heavy that you can't see a person who's standing 1 m away from you. I immediately turned around and was about to exit the tunnel, but my parents persuaded me to stay.

Just look at that visibility! That is myself and I couldn't even see one meter down my body.

"Your Change Encounter" is made up of that fog. When you first go into the tunnel the light seems pretty natural though very bright. Then the light slowly disappears and you walk in complete darkness. Then the fog turns yellow, orange, red, green, blue, purple, white and all the colours are so VIBRANT. All the while you can't see a thing because of the fog.

It was such a good experience that we just had to take another go after having seen the rest of the exhibitions. We went to the museum at night and I think that there were only 10 guests there in total - ourselves included. That way we had the tunnel all to ourselves both times. The second time though the fog was almost gone - probably because the museum was nearing it's closing time.

Due to the lack of fog we could see much further the second time and the experience was so different. The footsteps on the floor from during the day were visible as well. I think the second picture is actually kind of creepy even though the light looks like it's coming from the sun or something like that, haha.

I apologize if the light is to strong for you but I just wanted to give you guys an idea about how it actually looked. It was actually very beautiful, which is odd seeing that it's a man-made object. But I felt like I was somewhat looking at nature itself.

Another one of his creations, this one called "Your Negotiable Panorama". Before you enter the area, the line is completely staright, but the minute you enter it starts creating waves. It took us a while to figure out how it happened, but here's a clue for you: In the middle there was a pool of water...

We had a lot of fun taken pictures and normally I think we'd stopped much quicker. But the fact that we were almost alone at the museum gave us a feeling that it was all right to have fun with the artworks a little longer than usually.

Somewhat it almost looked like the universe... or a galaxy.

Afterwards we watched a documentary about Olafur Eliasson and it was a very good way to get to know him better as an artist. It created a nice frame around our visit.

Hans Scherfig also had an exhibition there. His works are very different but Danes generally love them to pieces. The style is so naive. I really liked the colours from that first one... I've seen a lot of his art in that genre, but I was quite surprised to see the latter of the elephant graveyard - it is so much more brutal than his other works. That was very interesting.

Egoistic oscar

I got around to wearing my army jeans. These days I don't really care all that much about what I wear - it's so cold and icy/slippery outside that I wouldn't dream of wearing high heels. And exactly that is what I need to get motivation to dress fancy every day right now, haha. It's such a shame though.

Now for some oscar talk! All the buzz about it is making me hyped up as well, hahha! Anna Hathaway and James Franco will be hosting the event this year and I think that is a very interesting choice. Last year the hosts were very much older and this time around the hosts are the youngest ever to present the award show! Ever the more interesting is the fact that many believe that Anne Hathaway has a change at winning her first oscar for her role in Love And Other Drugs.

But the thing I'm most excited about is the best animated picture-award. Last year the drama was about Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker and this year it's all about Toy Story 3 vs. How To Train Your Dragon for me. Actually I dont really know which one I liked the most, so I'm very eager to see the academy's choice.

Spending time on nice things

During Astrid's stay at my place we opened up my Disney Princess Cup Set. One the back of the packages with cocoa there were so much glue/sticky stuff that we could attach them on our foreheads and they would stay there. I can't help but think about all the small children whom have had those packages in their mouths - and all of that glue in there as well.

The January SALE has started. I've been on a couple of shopping sprees because of this. On on one of these trips I bought the items above.

I've been wanting over knee boots for a long time now and now I finally have some! The price tag stated that they were on sale for 250 DKK and I have a max of 200 DKK when it comes to shoes (and eveything else). So I was really in doubt about buying them, but eventually did because I knew I'd regret it if I didn't - they were the only ones left in my size. And when I went to the counter, the saleswoman said that the tag was wrong and it was in fact 150 DKK that was the correct price. And then I was SO happy I'd decided to buy them.

I can't wait to do a rocking coordinate with the army printed jeans !!

The happiness is also because of the fact that I decorated my phone, something I've been trying to find time to do for a month or so. My back was hurting so much after the two hours it took - those little rhinestones almost killed me.

Occasionally I buy Empire. It's kind of expensive here in DK, but I always read the whole magazine so that makes up for it. And when I saw that there was a TRON feature, a year's end recapitulation and a Oscars debate I just had to buy it. Plus Will Ferrel was mentioned a lot. And it was a very good read.

Celebration of the new and past year

Now for my new years-post! I celebrated the beggining and ending of a year with Astrid, Sascha and her boyfriend. Originally we had planned to go to Louise's place, but she got really sick and had to cancel out on both hosting and participating - such a shame! So instead we just stayed at my parents' house and had our party alongside my parents and their guests.

We made our own sushi and japanese style omelets etc. And yes, then we were western shitheads and drank cola on the side. Even though it was a simple meal I liked the fact that it suited our theme - I think it's pretty obvious what our theme was. Wapanese much.

This was my outfit. Can you say outfit when it's japanese traditional clothing? Well, guess so.

I bought the kimono (I'm just guessing it's not a yukata because it's thicker) while I was in Japan. It was during one of my trips to shrine flea markets - and it was so cheap. I'm so happy that I bought it now!

We had a little fun shooting some pictures, especially with the sparklers - can you tell? Astrid and Sascha looked so damn adorable!

We spent the rest of our evening playing Trivial Pursuit and then rushed downstairs to make a jump into the new year in front of the television. Then we sang along to some nationalistic songs and watched the fireworks. The wind was pretty strong and made it kind of dangerous to see it from the outside so we quickly moved to a safe location behind a window. The fireworks just kept on going until it started raining around 2.

Why is it that yutakas' sleeves are so short? Your arms look retarded is you keep them in that lenght... And the only thing that is really emphasized wearing them is the buttom. Sexxxxxy much.

New year in Burlesque

Happy new year everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic 2010 and will enjoy many wonderful moments in 2011!

I'll do a new years-post later, so this is all you get for now.

Last week Astrid came over and she only just went home yesterday. It was really nice spending some time with her. We watched How To Train Your Dragon together again and kept quoting it the rest of the days. And then we watched a whole lot of Glee...

Alongside my mother we - Astrid and I - went to watch Burlesque. The plot was thin, but I'm tempted to say "of course it was!". You don't really go to see a musical because of the storyline, do you now?

Ali (Christina's character) moves to LA to be a dancer/singer and finds that she wants to go on stage on Burlesque. Only problem is that they aren't hiring. She then takes on another job in the club and works her way to the top - in this case the stage. But the club has financial problems...

I really liked the movie. Mostly because of the choreography and the costumes though. We all agreed that there were just a tiny bit too many songs. The fact that when I look back I can only remember 4-5 songs is proof of that.

There were some funny sequences, but of course the main focus was the stage and what happened up there. At least that's what I'd say - some people would probably say that the love story in it is the focus. The actors are wearing the most fantastic make-up doing the movie - sometimes I just looked over at Astrid with stars in my eyes. It was really breathtaking at some points.

Stanley Tucci was also in this movie. This took me by surprise and I was really happy about it! I think he's great at all he does - I absolutely adored him in The Lovely Bones.

Christina's acting was so-so, but she was just as good as most chick-flick actors so it wasn't really bad. That said the character really suited her. Cher on the other hand was really good in the role and performed fantastically.

Before hitting the movies we sat down on a café and enjoyed some hot tea and coffee for my mother. It's so damn cold outside - 5 minutes out there leave you craving hot drinks.

We played 500 - I don't know if this game exist outside of DK - and I won! We played a lot of different games during Astrid's stay and I won a lot of them, haha. Guess I'm out of luck for love !

We took a bubblebath together, because the bathtub is big enough. We popped in a LUSH thingy in and the water turned PINK. It said it would on the box, but we hadn't expected it to be so vibrant a color. I couldn't see my hand when I held it 2 cm under the surface. The bath was filled with white bubbles when we went in and every time we seperated them, we had already forgotten about the pinkness of the water. It was really fun.
